About Gotland Ring Founder´s welcome
Dear Visitors and Guests,
Let me first welcome you to our extraordinary environment - the picturesque and sunny
island of Gotland. To be able to develop the vision in this ultimate enabling
environment is a grand privilege of a life time. Our efficient and very professional
Gotland Ring team has already delivered unforgettable events for global automotive new
model launches and driver development services for various clientele. None of this
would be possible without our main sponsor Nordkalk and a team of
colleagues including management, business partners, volunteers, and last but not least,
reliable true friends.
Social and environmental entrepreneurship is what drives and motivates the Gotland Ring
team performance and related cluster of partner companies. From the very beginning,
Gotland Ring has been in the forefront in terms of vision, execution, and focus on
excellence; in some cases, especially with its environmental goals (link to
Sustainability synopsis), even too early as the market was not mature for that level of
commitment. Now, Gotland Ring is a case study of success as the first ecological race &
test circuit in the world, as it was introduced at the World Professional Motorsport
Expo at the forum seminar for leading experts, track owners, investors, operators, and
architects in Cologne, Germany in November 2009 (where I was invited to lecture about
"Social & Environmental Entrepreneurship" under the category "Creating and Operating
Socially Responsible Circuits").
The main business focus for Gotland Ring continues to be within international new model
launches, corporate high-end and edutainment events, and testing & development. However,
the track experiences a tremendous popularity among enthusiasts and trackday operators -
both motorcycles and cars. On enthusiast forums one can clearly detect that Gotland
Ring is popular because of its combination of driving pleasure and safety - a kind of
modern and safe version of the Nordschleife (but a bit shorter for now:)).
In the future, the circuit tarmac will extend far beyond its current 3.2 km. After the
planned phase by phase expansion starting 2012 - thanks to the co-operation with Gotland
Green Business Campus - the circuit can measure up to 28 km (with six separate circuits
Campus will develop an experimental and modular Smart Energy Road and Traffic System;
the concept will be presented at the World Ecological Forum 2011.
In 2009, Gotland Ring hosted exhibition racing, in benefit for UNICEF, with mega-stars
from WRC, Formula 1, and other championship racing. Already in 2009, Gotland Ring
incorporated electric cars in some of its competitive show case events and especially in
driver training, such as corporate Safety & Eco Driving events.
In 2010, the Gotland Ring Motorsport Club (GRMC) organised sports car racing and plan to
develop the motorsport activities continuously. New series organisers approach both the
club and Gotland Ring about organising races on Gotland in the near future.
During World Ecological Forum Almedalen 2011 (see http://www.worldecologicalforum.com/) ,
Gotland Ring will host a zero- and low-emission vehicle workshop.
